OBEDIENCE = BLESSING
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded. So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him. He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Moses leads the children of Israel out of Egypt and through the Red Sea. Pharaoh and his army are drowned in the sea and the children of Israel sing a worship song of victory. Then the people move on the Marah—it was a three-day journey without fresh water. When they arrive at Marah the water was bitter. But God responds to Moses’ prayers and purifies the water when Moses throws a stick in the water. The stick was not a magical solution to the problem. The stick was a sign of obedience to God. Just as the blood on their door frames was not a magical covering for their sins. The blood was a sign of their obedience to God. It was here at Marah that God gives a divine principle, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians.” Basically God is saying, “Listen and obey Me and you will be blessed.” Obedience releases blessing and disobedience blocks blessing. This is a true saying today. If we will obey God’s instructions, we will be blessed. If we live in disobedience, we will miss out on the blessing of God.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I want You to be my Teacher and Guide. I want You to show me the truth I need to live by. Help me to have the courage to do what is right before God. I want to be a candidate for Your blessing.
