OUR GOOD SHEPHERD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
Psalms 23:1-3 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
This is one of the most familiar passages of scripture in the Bible. David, the shepherd-turned-king, writes from the perspective of a shepherd about his relationship with Almighty God. David lets us know that God is our shepherd, and we are His sheep.
The sheep don’t have to worry about food, protection, or where to sleep. The shepherd is responsible to guide them to food, provide their protection, and lead them to a safe place to sleep. A good shepherd is always looking out for his sheep.
David says that God is our good shepherd “bringing honor to his name.” God is honored when people see how He takes care of His sheep.
We encounter problems and challenges in this life when we fail to listen to our Shepherd. We try to solve problems on our own without listening to our Shepherd often to disastrous results. We must learn to trust our Shepherd. We must learn to follow Him. We must learn to listen to Him. We move when He calls us and stay when and where He tells us to stay. He is a good shepherd that can be trusted today and always.
