WAIT SO THAT YOU CAN SOAR

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today is Saturday, it is sometimes called Holy Saturday. This is the day between the crucifixion and the resurrection. Traditionally this is a day of quiet reflection, mourning, and waiting.
Jesus’ body is in the tomb. The tomb is sealed and guarded by soldiers given the charge to be sure the body stays in the tomb.
The disciples were in hiding. They were confused, heartbroken, shocked, and afraid. Even though Jesus tried to prepare them for these events they had not understood His plan. They were still hoping for an earthly kingdom. Nothing made sense today.
Some Christian traditions teach that Jesus descended to the dead on this Saturday and preached the victory of His death and resurrection.
For the followers of Jesus this was a day of waiting. They were waiting in the dark wondering if there would be a dawn.
The prophet Isaiah tells us that “those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.” That word “trust” is translated “wait” in the King James Version of the Bible. It comes from a Hebrew word, “qavah.” The word can mean “patiently tarry” or “wait for.” Another option is “to expect.”
In our culture we don’t like to wait. I’m not good with lines or traffic lights. It has taken me years to develop patience with lines and traffic lights. I will choose where to eat based on how quickly I can a table and food. I really don’t like to wait.
Yet there are some things in life that require waiting. In fact, the best things in life develop over time.
The waiting that Isaiah talks about in our text today is not a passive waiting but an active waiting. It is using the time of confusion, shock, and disappointment to grow out trust in God.
I propose some of our best growth opportunities are in the waiting rooms of life. Those are the moments when our faith is stretched to the max and our patience is put on display.
Let’s use today to reflect on the grace and mercy of God. Let’s decide today that any areas of our lives that don’t make sense we will give to God in the faith that He is bigger than the problem. Let’s choose today to grow our faith so that we can soar, or run, or maybe this time we just celebrate that we are still walking.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your sacrifice on my behalf. I am confident that the same power that raised You from the dead will work in all my problems. I trust You today to empower me and direct me to Your path of victory. Regardless of how dark my today is I know You are bringing victory for me.
