WILL YOU CHOOSE TO BE DIFFERENT?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with the Lord.

Genesis 6:5-8 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

From Genesis chapter one to Genesis chapter six we see the destruction of human society. When man thought he had a better plan than God’s plan, sin entered the human equation and destruction soon followed. The slide into human wickedness always starts with making a choice to resist God’s rules and decide we know better than God.

Humanity can easily get distracted from obedience to God. We get distracted by pleasure, profit, popularity, and possessions. For some it is the distraction of pleasure that sidetracks them into “feeling good” regardless of path to get that buzz. There is nothing wrong with having fun, but if you make your feelings the drive of your life you get distracted from the purpose of God in your life.

The distraction of profit has ruined many a person. You can’t serve God and money. Money can become the master of your life.

The distraction of popularity drives many people to constantly worry about what others think about them. Do they have enough likes or comments on their social media post? You can’t live to please people and God.

The distraction of possessions often drives people to judge their success in life by the things they own. All of these possessions are temporary and what I own does not define who I am.

The cure for distraction is to dare to be different from others. Not to allow the world to conform you to their image of what is right and wrong. Not allow others to determine your value. You are created in the image of God with a purpose and a plan. Don’t allow culture to distract you from your destiny.

Noah dared to be different. In a world of human wickedness where the thoughts of men were totally evil, one man stood out as different. When God was ready to destroy the earth and start over, He saw Noah and through Noah saved humanity.

One man—or woman—can make a difference. But only if you chose to be different. You must make the right choice every day.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to choose to be different. Help me to choose to not be distracted by my culture and their way of thinking.

I choose to be different. I refuse to be conformed to the thinking of my world.
