HELP ME TO WAIT

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Psalms 27:14 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Patience is not a characteristic that is easily developed. I know it is the fourth part of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:19-20) but it has always been hard for me. I don’t like lines, I don’t like red lights, and I don’t like slow service in a restaurant. I also struggle when I feel God has given me an idea yet when I begin to work on it; it takes forever to develop. It is also when I’ve prayed for something that I know is God’s will, it doesn’t seem to materialize as quickly as I’d like. Patience is a part of the character of God and therefore should be a part of our lives. We should strive to be patient people. However, it is so hard on the flesh. I remember riding the subways in London. When the car would arrive at a stop just before the doors opened a voice over the intercom would declare, “Mind the gap!” This would occur at every stop. It was a warning to be careful as you stepped off the car because there was a gap between the car and the platform. They didn’t want you to misstep and fall in the gap. I believe there have been a lot of believers who have fallen in the gap. They missed the transition from the promises God gave them to the arrival of the promise. Sometimes we are like Abraham and Sarah. We have a promise from God, God doesn’t seem to work on our timeline, so we help God out by devising human plans to fulfill God’s plan. The result for Abraham and Sarah was a child born from a handmaiden that caused great division in the house and world. Let’s decide we will allow God to set the timing. We will believe in faith for the miracles He wants to achieve in our lives, and we will develop patience to see it through.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to know Your promises. Help me to grasp Your plan and purpose. Help me to wait patiently until You fulfill Your work in and through me. Help me not to be lazy in the waiting but to allow You to work in me during the wait.
