“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NLT
What is one of the greatest gifts God has given to mankind? I believe it is our free will. With our free will we have the choice to create, build, explore, learn, and expand. For all of history people have used their free will to create a better way to live, develop medicines, and explore the unknown. Others have chosen to use their free will to start wars, kill people, and destroy lives. We have each been given a free will. We get to choose the path we will take in life. One man has said, “We make our choices and then our choices make us!” Moses challenged the nation of Israel to make good choices with their free will. He challenged them—and us—to choose life and blessing. He says that the choice we make for life and blessing involves a commitment to love and obey God. He even says, “This is the key to your life.” What would it look like to daily chose life and blessing? What would I make as a daily part of my life? I would find time to read my Bible, talk to God in prayer, and take time to worship God? If I used my free will to choose life and blessing, I believe I’d use my time, talent, and treasure to bless others and advance the kingdom of God. I believe I’d want to share with others the blessings I have received because I obey the Word of God. What would you change about your daily choices if you used your free will to choose blessing and life?
Holy Spirit help me today to activate my free will to love and obey God. Help me today to explore the possibilities of living a blessed life because I am choosing to obey You.
