TRUST GOD TO GUIDE YOU

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.”
Luke 2:7 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Can you imagine the weight of the assignment Mary was given—to raise the Son of God?
Surely her mind was filled with questions. How do you discipline the Son of God? Would He even need discipline? Would He ever have a bad day, get frustrated, or need correction? Would she have to teach Him, or would He already know everything? The calling was holy—and overwhelming.
Life often feels that way. I remember becoming a lead pastor at the age of 30. I had grown up in a pastor’s home and spent four years in Bible school earning a ministry degree, yet I quickly realized how much I didn’t know. The responsibility felt heavy.
That season drove me deeper into prayer. I shifted from being a night person to a morning person because early mornings were the only uninterrupted time I had with God. My prayer life deepened. I fasted at least one day a week for years, learning to listen for the Holy Spirit and rely on His leadership.
Feeling overwhelmed forced me into dependence—and that is not a bad place to be. In fact, it may be exactly where God wants us to live. Living by faith means we won’t feel fully comfortable. We won’t have everything figured out. We pray more. We listen more. We trust more.
Some people become so afraid of doing the wrong thing that they do nothing at all. Mary shows us a better way. She didn’t get stuck in all the unanswered questions. She simply did what she knew to do. She wrapped Jesus in cloths to keep Him warm and secure. She laid Him down in a safe place to rest.
Maybe that’s the lesson for us: do what you know to do, and trust God to guide you in what you don’t yet know.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me live in daily dependence on You. Help me trust You with each step of my life. Give me the faith to do what I can today, and the humility to trust You to teach me what I cannot.
