PRACTICE GOD’S PRESENCE ALL DAY, EVERY DAY
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”
Matthew 1:22-23 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
The very heart of the message of Christmas in this passage, “God is with us!”
We are never alone. In the middle of our chaos, crisis, pain, and confusion God wants to be with us. He will never force Himself into our world, but He is always waiting to be invited.
The Christmas message is about God loving the world so much that He sent Jesus to come to earth and live among us. Jesus promised that when He left the earth, He would send the Holy Spirit to live in His followers. Paul tells us we are the temple of the God, and the Spirit of God dwells in us.
The chaotic pace of our lives can become so overwhelming that we fail to pause and remind ourselves that God is with us. He is wanting to have a conversation with us. He is wanting to impact our lives.
Sometimes we tend to limit God to just the religious areas of our lives. Going to corporate worship on Sunday morning, going to Bible study and small group—we want and expect God to be present in those moments. But what about our time at work, school, home, and shopping.
Christmas is a great time to have some moments of pause where you ask the Holy Spirit to help you be more aware of God’s presence.
Recently I found myself getting in a rush as I worked through my list for the day. I realized I rarely talked to people beyond the necessary greeting. I decided to be more intentional about looking for God in my activities. I took moments to pause for a brief comment or conversation.
The results were amazing. I saw people smile and react surprised. Just a quick kind word seemed to change some people’s moment. I was practicing the presence of God.
Let’s don’t limit God’s presence to a church building. Let’s practice His presence everywhere we go.
Where could you practice God’s presence today?
