DEFENDING THE WALL

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“The laborers carried on their work with one hand supporting their load and one hand holding a weapon.”

Nehemiah 4:17 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Yesterday we talked about the attacks that come against us when we are trying to allow the Holy Spirit to rebuild some areas of our lives. We said that we must be willing to work and ready to fight. When you feel the "sword" in your hand getting heavy, use these specific biblical responses to silence the opposition and stay focused on the work.

1. Against Internal Resistance (The "Me" Struggle)

  • The Attack: "This is too hard. I'd rather go back to my old ruts; they were comfortable."

  • The Sword: Philippians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

  • The Drill: Remind your soul that your strength is not found in your willpower, but in the "New Nature" God has placed within you.

2. Against Social Pressure (The "Other People" Struggle)

  • The Attack: "Who do you think you are? You've never done it this way before."

  • The Sword: Galatians 1:10. "Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? ... If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."

  • The Drill: When people-pleasing threatens your progress, verbally declare that your "Wall" is being built for an audience of One.

3. Against Cultural Mockery (The "World" Struggle)

  • The Attack: "You're just wasting your time. Look at all that rubble—it's impossible to fix."

  • The Sword: Luke 1:37. "For with God nothing shall be impossible."

  • The Drill: Treat the world’s "impossible" as God’s opportunity. The world sees the rubble; God sees the finished structure.

4. Against Spiritual Warfare (The "Satan" Struggle)

  • The Attack: "You are disqualified. You are a failure. God is distant from you."

  • The Sword: James 4:7. "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

  • The Drill: Do not argue with the enemy. Submit your work to the Holy Spirit, speak the truth of your "Better Covenant", and keep building.

TODAY’S PRAYER

"Lord, I thank You that the Battle is Yours, but the Trowel is mine. Today, I choose to work with diligence and watch with vigilance. I will not come down from this wall until the work is finished. Amen."
