THE EFFECT OF SODOM
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Afterward Lot left Zoar because he was afraid of the people there, and he went to live in a cave in the mountains with his two daughters. One day the older daughter said to her sister, “There are no men left anywhere in this entire area, so we can’t get married like everyone else. And our father will soon be too old to have children. Come, let’s get him drunk with wine, and then we will have sex with him. That way we will preserve our family line through our father.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Once you move into Sodom, Sodom moves into you! Lot chose to move to Sodom with his family. It had the appearance of opportunity and comfort. But what was underneath was wickedness and immorality. At first Lot just moved close to Sodom, but eventually Lot moved into Sodom. We are like that. At first, we just get curious about sinful things. That curiosity leads to experimentation and before long we are hooked. The sin has taken root in our lives. The end result of sin we allow in our lives does not just impact us, it also impacts our children and grandchildren. Lot had become a wealthy and successful man. He had so many flocks and servants he had to separate from Abraham because both were blessed. But in the end Lot winds up in a cave. His daughters have been so influenced by the mindset of Sodom they hatch a horrible plan to have children. Don’t play around the edges of sin. Don’t make excuses or justify or rationalize. The Bible tells us to “flee sexual immorality” (1 Cor 6:18). We are not told to resist sexual immorality but to flee from it. Run away. Don’t get close to sexual immorality. Stay as far away as you can. It will infect you and destroy you.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please help me to recognize the temptations that Satan wants to bring into my life. Empower me to run away and build walls of protection in my life.
