SHARING YOUR STORY OF FAITH

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
And all the people in the region of the Gerasenes begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them. So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake. The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying, “No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.” So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.
Luke 8:37-39 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus goes to a region and is approached by a man who is demon possessed. He lived among the tombs and was uncontrollable by the local people. Jesus delivers the man from the demons controlling him by sending the evil spirits into a herd of pigs. The pigs run off a cliff and commit suicide.
The pig herders run into town to tell everyone what had happened. When the towns people show up the man is dressed and in his right mind sitting at Jesus’ feet. The people are afraid of this power that Jesus demonstrated and asked Jesus to leave. As Jesus is leaving the cured man wants to go with Jesus but Jesus tells him, “Go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.”
This is the point of my thoughts today. Our most positive conversation about Jesus is to answer the question, what has Jesus done for me?
I was raised in church and accepted Christ at a young age. For years I felt like I had no story to tell of God’s grace and redemption. But my journey of life has had a lot of bumps and disappointments. In my struggles of life God has always been there. In times of sickness, failure, tragedy, and triumph God has showed up to carry me through the good and bad times.
When I talk with people about my faith journey it is not all roses. There were times of doubt, frustration, anger and confusion. My ability to share the reality of my faith walk helps me to build a relatable bridge to others. I think people identify better with my struggles than with my victories.
People can argue theology, doctrine, and styles of worship. But no one can argue with your personal faith journey. This is your story of God’s transforming work in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you share your story with faith.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit help me to see Your hand at work in my journey of life. Help me to learn to share my story with others in a loving and honest expression of faith in You. Help me be a bridge between the lost and Jesus.
