WHY WE NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
Luke 11:13 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus uses the simple logic of a father’s love. No decent father would trick a hungry child by handing them a scorpion when they asked for an egg. Jesus is showing us that our Heavenly Father isn't just willing to give the Holy Spirit; He is excited to provide exactly what we need for our journey.
Empowerment, Not Just Salvation
There are many different views on the Holy Spirit, and some avoid the topic because it feels controversial. But the Bible is clear: the Holy Spirit is God’s primary provision for the believer.
Jesus told His followers not to leave Jerusalem until they were “clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). While we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, the fullness of the Holy Spirit is a separate issue of empowerment. It’s the difference between having a car (salvation) and having the fuel to drive it (empowerment). Throughout the Book of Acts, we see believers repeatedly filled with the Spirit to do the work God called them to do.
Don’t Let "Weird" Stop the "Good"
Some people are afraid of the Holy Spirit because they have seen people act strangely and blame it on God. We’ve all heard someone say, “The Spirit made me do it,” to justify "weird" behavior.
Let’s be clear: People can be weird, but the Holy Spirit is not. He is the Spirit of a "sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7). We shouldn't let human eccentricities scare us away from the Helper, Counselor, and Guide that Jesus promised us. If our Father says the Spirit is a "good gift," then we can trust that receiving Him will only make our lives better, more effective, and more focused on Christ.
Yielding to the Helper
The Holy Spirit already lives inside every believer. Our job is to learn how to listen and yield. He is your:
Counselor when you face a difficult decision.
Comforter when your heart is broken.
Teacher when you don't understand the Word.
Advocate when you feel under attack.
He is available to you right now. All you must do is ask.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I need You. I recognize that I cannot fulfill God’s plan for my life in my own strength. I ask for a fresh infilling of Your power today. Teach me to listen to Your voice and yield to Your direction in every decision I make. Thank You, Father, for this good gift. Amen.
