IN THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It is what I call the “divine exchange.” Paul is writing to explain to us God’s plan to exchange our sinful imperfection for the perfection of Jesus.

God had a problem when it came to humans. God is perfect. God lives in a perfect place called heaven. God’s desire was to spend eternity with us in heaven. But how could a perfect God living in a perfect place allow imperfect people into heaven?

God make the choice to come to earth in the form of a human and sacrifice His life on a cross. On the cross God put on Jesus the sins of the world. Every sin you and I have ever committed was placed on Jesus. Then God made the righteousness of Jesus available to us.

When we by faith admit we are sinners and ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior we receive the righteousness of Jesus. God trades our sins for His righteousness. That is grace.

We can never be good enough to receive God’s righteousness. We can’t earn it, nor do we deserve it. We must receive it by faith as an act of God’s grace.

Once we receive the righteousness of God then we begin to think and act differently. We see life different. We have different priorities and desires. We are daily being transformed into His image.

We are not perfect. But we are forgiven. Perfection is impossible on this side of eternity. But daily we are moving to be more like Jesus.

Accept daily the gift of righteousness. Remind yourself that you are the righteousness of God in Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit thank you for placing in me the righteousness of Jesus.
