SHARE CHRIST

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

Mark 16:15-18 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Mark’s gospel gives a shorter version of what we commonly call the Great Commission. Matthew records a longer version in Matthew 28. Both versions agree on the priority being for the followers of Jesus to “Go into all the world.” Jesus wanted His followers to know that this message of a resurrected Savior was to be shared everywhere in the world. As people believed in the death and resurrection of Jesus to pay the price for their sins they would be saved. That meant their sins would be forgiven and they would be free from the bondage of sin. Forgiveness and freedom come to those who place their faith in Jesus. Jesus continued by letting His followers know that when they preached the message of Jesus’ resurrection, they could expect miracles to occur to confirm the truth of the message. As followers of Christ, we should be expecting miracles today. Through our prayers people should be set free. We should have a personal prayer language that connects our spirit with the Spirit of God. We should live a life that is protected from the harm of the enemy. We should be able to pray for the sick and they will be healed. I don’t believe Jesus was encouraging us to pick up snakes or drink poison to prove His protection power. In the book of Acts the apostle Paul was bitten by a snake while gathering wood and the people were amazed, he just shook the snake off (Acts 28). Paul did intentionally pick up the snake to prove God’s protection in his life. Francis Chan said if there is not something about your life that can’t be explained apart from the presence of God then you aren’t really living life as a Spirit-filled believer. Is there something about your life that demonstrates to others God’s presence in your life?
