HONESTY IS A PRIORITY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

You must use accurate scales when you weigh out merchandise, and you must use full and honest measures. Yes, always use honest weights and measures, so that you may enjoy a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you. All who cheat with dishonest weights and measures are detestable to the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 25:13-16 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Throughout the Old Testament there is a theme of honest and dishonest weights (Prov 11:1; 16:11; 20:10). God repeatedly warns against using dishonest weights in business. Some merchants evidently adjusted their scales to weigh out less than others. The merchant was not giving a fair amount for the price paid. God wanted the children of Israel to be known as honest businessmen. This act of honestly in their business dealings should be a priority because they had God as their provider. They should honor God by the way they conducted business. I believe this principle applies to followers of Christ today. We should be recognized in our business life as one who is honest in what we do. We are expected to work hard and do the best we can with what we have. We must also recognize that God is our Provider. Because He is our Provider, we should never take advantage of others. We should always be careful to keep our life in balance. Don’t get so caught up in making money that we sacrifice our integrity or any other area of our life. God wants us to succeed in every area of life—relationally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financially. We don’t want to be successful in one area of life and sacrifice the others. When we become dishonest in any area of our lives it impacts every other area.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to handle every area of my life with integrity and honesty. Help me to be a good steward of the time, talent, and treasure You have given me.
