ABLE TO ENJOY WHAT I HAVE
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.
1 Timothy 6:6-7 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live in a society that spends a lot of energy on trying to get more. More toys, treasures, titles, and trophies. For many the word “contentment” is a bad word.
In the kingdom of God, we are taught that contentment is “great wealth.” Think about that a moment. Contentment is great wealth.
The person who is content with what they have is not worried, full of anxiety, or jealous of what others have. They can sleep with peace.
I have seen that many people as they begin to achieve more stuff lose their contentment. It seems for many the more you have the more you want. And the more anxiety you have that you will lose what you have.
A child is born into the world with nothing. When we die, we leave with nothing. I’ve done a lot of funerals and have still never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse. We leave everything behind.
If I start with nothing and end with nothing, then I should make it my goal to live content with what I have because it is only temporary.
There is a big difference between contentment and complacency. I want to be content with what God has given me. But I don’t want to be complacent. I don’t want to waste what God gives me. I want to study and work to be the best version of myself I can be. I want God to be pleased with what I do with what He has given to me.
Life is a balancing act. Being content without becoming complacent. Working hard without becoming addicted to work. Being able to enjoy what I have is the key.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit help me to enjoy the blessing You have put in my life. Help me to learn to be content with what I have but not to become complacent.
