TODAY’S THOUGHT
Yesterday we talked about refusing to use credit cards so that we don’t become a borrower because borrowers are servants of the lender. Today let’s take a step forward and look at what God says are the actions of “good people” when it comes to money. Solomon tells us in Proverbs 13 that “good people leave an inheritance to the grandchildren.” That means they decide to not spend all they make and instead save money. When we save money for the future generation, we are what God calls a “good person.” Years ago I had a wise man teach me to always give God the first 10% of your income, that is the tithe. Then once you have given to God you should self aside a portion for your savings. He said that if I would save 10% of my income for the future, I would eventually find myself in a place of abundance. Cindy and I began that practice years ago. We have always tithed to God the first 10%. Beyond that we have given 7% to 8% on a regular basis to missions and special needs. Then we have worked for years to save 10%. That means we have lived on 70% of our income before we pay taxes. In the early days this was hard. There were some lean years when we didn’t know how we would be able to make it. We passed on vacations and other purchases to stay on track. Today we still practice this same process. It is always interesting how God chooses to bless us. He has proven over and over that He is our Provider. We can trust the provision of God because we are working to be good stewards of the time, talent, and treasure God has given to us. I am believing that my children and grandchildren will be blessed because of the choices we have made and continue to make.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit help us to be faithful in the way we handle our time, talent, and treasure. Help us to save every month for the future.
