I CHOSE YOU
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”
John 15:16 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Many of us can still recall the stomach-churning anxiety of recess in elementary school, standing in a line while two captains chose teams for kickball.
After the first few athletic kids were selected, a cold sense of dread would set in. You would stand there, staring at your sneakers, wondering how far down the line you would fall—or if you were left as the unwanted default at the very end.
The sting of childhood rejection is incredibly real, and as we grow, the stakes only get higher.
The enemy loves to weaponize a spirit of rejection to dismantle our spiritual authority. He wants to keep us feeling unwanted, devalued, excluded, and second-rate. If he can convince us that we are permanently rejected, he can successfully isolate us and compromise our ability to form healthy relationships with others and with God.
To shut down this tactical assault, we must stand firmly on what the Word of God declares about our true value:
1. You Are Hand-Picked by God
Jesus looks directly at you and declares: “You didn’t choose me. I chose you.”
In the original Greek text, the word translated “chose” (eklego) carries a deeply emotional meaning. It doesn't mean to just randomly grab someone out of a crowd; it means to select for oneself with deep, personal interest.
Your Heavenly Father has a profound, personal interest in you. He didn't settle for you because He ran out of options. He intentionally selected you to be an integral part of His Kingdom plan, appointing you to a highly specific assignment: to go out and produce lasting, eternal fruit.
2. You Have a Reserved Seat at the Table
The Apostle Paul reveals our true spiritual positioning:
“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)
Because of your union with Jesus, you are officially seated in the heavenly realms. You have a permanent, reserved seat at God's table.
My wife, Cindy, had to move frequently growing up and ended up attending three different high schools. She has shared with me many times that her absolute greatest fear was walking into a brand-new school cafeteria on her first day. She would get incredibly nervous about finding a place to sit where she wouldn't feel out of place or unwelcome. Experiencing that painful, isolated feeling firsthand ultimately shaped her heart, turning her into someone who always proactively scans the room for the outsider or the new person to ensure they have a place to belong.
In Christ, your search for a place to belong is over. You don't have to wander the spiritual cafeteria looking for a friendly face; the King Himself has pulled out a chair and seated you right next to Him.
3. You Are His Intended Masterpiece
Paul continues to dismantle the enemy's labels of worthlessness:
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10)
The original Greek word for “masterpiece” is poiema, from which we get our English word poem. It refers to a work of art, a designed creation of exquisite value.
In my home office, I keep a large oil painting that my mother painted many years before she passed away. Beside it, I have hung two watercolor paintings created by two of my granddaughters. From a purely commercial standpoint, these pieces might not fetch a high price. But to me, they are of immeasurable, priceless value—simply because of who created them.
Your worth can never be calculated by your natural talents, your worldly trophies, or your material treasures. Your value is established solely by the identity of your Creator. You are God’s hand-crafted masterpiece, and He deemed you so incredibly valuable that He was willing to sacrifice His own Son to bring you home.
Personal Application Questions:
Whose team captain am I listening to? When thoughts of insecurity and worthlessness creep into your mind, do you listen to the enemy’s whispers of rejection, or do you choose to stand on Jesus’ declaration that He has hand-picked you?
Am I taking my seat at the table? Are you still living like a spiritual orphan begging for scraps, or are you actively resting in the dignity of being an honored, seated guest of the King?
Where am I searching for my worth? Have you been trying to calculate your value based on your performance, your productivity, or the approval of others, rather than the price Jesus paid for you on the cross?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I take authority over every spirit of rejection, worthlessness, and exclusion trying to operate in my life today. I choose to reject the lies of the enemy and fully receive what Your Word says about me. Thank You for choosing me with deep, personal interest. Thank You for reserving a seat for me at Your table, and for handcrafting me as Your masterpiece. Help me to walk out into the battlefield today with my head held high, seeing myself exactly the way You see me. Amen.
