TRUST IN THE MOMENTS WE DON’T UNDERSTAND

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

Psalms 91:6 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

In the entirety of Psalm 91 there is only one thing David mentions twice as things God will protect us from and we don’t have to fear. In verse three we are told God will “protect you from deadly disease.” Now in verse six the same word is used when David writes, “Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness.”

In the NIV translation the word is “pestilence.” The Hebrew word is “deber.” It refers to plagues or diseases that destroy.

Imagine that David wrote these words thousands of years before COVID or any of the other pandemics that have attacked humanity. It was as if the Holy Spirit prompted David to write prophetic words to encourage our generation to not allow fear or dread of deadly disease to destroy our lives.

The Word of God promises healing from all our diseases (Psalm 103:2-3; Isaiah 53:5; Exodus 15:26). We do not have to live in fear of cancer or any other deadly disease. We are children of God born again by the blood of Jesus into God’s family. We can stand on the promises of God’s Word.

Our inheritance is not limited to what is handed down to us genetically from our ancestors. Our inheritance can be what Jesus provided for us if we believe the Word and put it to work.

We should never allow the enemy to attack our minds about deadly diseases that “stalks in darkness.” We have been declared whole by the stripes on the back of Jesus (1 Peter 2:24).

As I write this devotion, Cindy and I have a list of friends that we are praying for daily who are fighting deadly diseases. We are confessing God’s Word over them and praying not only for physical healing but for God’s peace in the process.

I don’t understand the timing or process of God. I do trust the heart of God. I do believe He works all things together for the good of His children (Romans 8:28). I must trust in moments when I don’t understand. Perhaps that is the greatest act of faith.

TODAY’S PRAYER

In Jesus name I speak against every deadly disease and rebuke their influence on my life, family, and friends. I refuse to live in fear of disease. By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed.
