EVERY GOOD THING COMES FROM GOD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.
Psalms 16:2 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Years ago, I felt the Holy Spirit challenge me to include in my daily time of prayer a time for giving God thanks for everything I have in my life. Part of that process led me to daily thank God for the house I live in, the clothes I wear, the food I eat, and the automobiles I get to drive. I started doing this remind myself that nothing I have is mine—it is on loan to me from God because He owns all things. God is the one who has given me whatever talents or ability I have. I should never get confused or think my hard work, skill, charisma, people skills, or intellect are what has brought success to my life. Whatever good has come out of my life has been the result of God’s favor on my life. This is why it is hard for me to tolerate proud and arrogant Christians, especially those who are in ministry roles and act as if they are something special and should be treated as celebrities. We are all followers of Jesus. He is the example we are to follow. Jesus said He didn’t come to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28). If Jesus came to serve, then as a follower of Jesus I should be serving others instead of expecting them to serve me. Scripture teaches that pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18-19). It also says when we humble ourselves, we give God a chance to exalt us (James 4:10). Let’s always remind ourselves that anything we have and any success we have accomplished is a gift from God. He deserves the credit.
