CHRIST IS ALL THAT MATTERS
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.”
Colossians 3:11 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
In the early 1900s, a powerful revival broke out at a former livery stable on Azusa Street in Los Angeles, California. Leading this movement was a humble black preacher named William J. Seymour. What made headlines around the world wasn’t just the passion of the worship or the spiritual manifestations—it was the unity. Black, white, Hispanic, and Asian believers were worshiping together, side by side, in a time when segregation ruled society.
The revival’s newsletter bore this powerful line:
“The blood of Jesus washes away all skin color.”
This captures the very essence of what Paul is teaching in Colossians 3:11.
In Paul’s day, the divide between Jew and Gentile was enormous. Jews held tightly to their identity, marked by circumcision—a physical sign of their covenant with God. But Paul boldly says: In Christ, none of that matters anymore.
He expands the list—slave or free, barbarian or civilized—to emphasize that in Jesus, all the social, cultural, and religious barriers that divide people are torn down.
And yet, even today, we still find ourselves tempted to label people—by skin color, education, income, family background, or even church involvement. But Paul’s message is clear:
“Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.”
If Jesus lives in someone, they are your brother or sister. Period.
In Christ, we are new creations. Our past, our labels, our backgrounds—they don’t define us anymore. Jesus does.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me to see others the way You do. Remove any pride, prejudice, or judgment from my heart. Forgive me for the times I’ve looked at someone through human eyes instead of through Your love. Help me to see the beauty of Christ in every person You’ve made.
