LIVE LIFE WISELY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
Colossians 4:5–6 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
In these verses, there are three powerful principles for impacting our world for the Kingdom: Live wisely; Make the most of every opportunity; and Let your words be gracious and attractive.
Let’s break them down:
1. Live Wisely
When I say I follow Jesus, people are watching. Whether we like it or not, the world around us—especially those who don’t yet know Christ—have expectations of what a Christian life should look like. Sometimes their expectations are unfair, but many times, they’re simply watching to see if our lives match our message.
They notice how I treat my spouse and kids.
They notice how I handle money.
They notice if I’m true to my word.
They even notice what I laugh at.
I pastored the same church for over 30 years. In one community, that kind of longevity doesn’t happen unless you live wisely. My life had to be marked by integrity. I wasn’t perfect—far from it. But I tried to own my mistakes and lead with humility. That’s what people respect and remember.
2. Make the Most of Every Opportunity
There have been moments when I realized, too late, that I missed an opportunity to show God’s love or speak life into someone. And I’ve learned something: the more I recognize those missed moments, the more aware I become the next time. I’m learning to train my heart to be sensitive and alert to divine appointments God has set before me.
3. Let Your Words Be Gracious and Attractive
When we share our faith, grace must lead the way. Rarely does anyone come to Christ because we’ve convinced them how wrong they are. People respond to love, not condemnation.
They know if we respect them.
They can tell if we’re judging or genuinely caring.
That’s why I often whisper a prayer before a conversation: “Holy Spirit, help me see this person the way You do.” That changes everything. When I remember Jesus died for them, it shapes my tone, my words, and my heart. I’m no longer trying to win an argument—I’m trying to share the love of God.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, show me where I’m not living wisely. Help me recognize the opportunities You place before me. And help me see people the way You see them—valuable, loved, and worth everything You gave.
