EVANGELISTS OF JESUS

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them.

Mark 5:18-20 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

In the opening verses of Mark 5 we read the story of Jesus bringing deliverance to a man who was demon possessed. He was tormented day and night. Mark tells us the man lived among the tombs and ran around naked. The community had tried to control him with chains, but he broke them off. Society was unable to offer any help to the hurting man. As soon as Jesus landed in the area the man runs to Jesus and publicly declares Jesus to be the Son of God. The demonic spirits recognized what many people did not—Jesus was God’s Son. After a brief discourse with the demonic spirits Jesus speaks deliverance over the man. Moments later the man is clothed and in his right mind. The townspeople come to see what is going on and are shocked to see this man clothed and in his right mind. When Jesus goes to leave the man wants to go with Him. But Jesus tells him to stay and tell others what had happened to him. This is interesting because often Jesus told people not to tell anyone about the miracle they received. But this man becomes one of the very first evangelists of the kingdom. He goes to the Gentile cities and tells everyone what happened to him. God’s work in our lives should be our motivation to tell others about Jesus. Our story of transformation should be our top conversation piece. We are to be His evangelists in our world.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to have the boldness to tell others what You have done in my life. Help me to be real. Help me to make a difference in my world.
