WAIT CONFIDENTLY FOR GOD!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

How miserable I am! I feel like the fruit picker after the harvest who can find nothing to eat. Not a cluster of grapes or a single early fig can be found to satisfy my hunger. The godly people have all disappeared; not one honest person is left on the earth. They are all murderers, setting traps even for their own brothers….Don’t trust anyone— not your best friend or even your wife! For the son despises his father. The daughter defies her mother. The daughter-in-law defies her mother-in-law. Your enemies are right in your own household! As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.

Micah 7:1-2, 5-7 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The prophet Micah is living in a difficult time. It appears God and justice are nowhere to be found. He is convinced everyone is full of evil. But Micah chooses to “look to the Lord for help.” He decides to “wait confidently for God” to save him.

Regardless of our present circumstances we can choose to look to God for our help. We can choose wait confidently knowing that God will save us.

As we move from a season of Thanksgiving into the Christmas season we should pause and allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with a renewed expectation. This year Cindy and I decided to put up our Christmas decorations early. Normally we wait till after Thanksgiving, but this year we have family coming in from out of state for Thanksgiving, so we got it all out early. We decided we wanted the family to experience some Christmas while they were here.

I know there are many people who are quick to point out that Jesus was probably not born on December 25th. This is just a date the early church chose on which to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Cindy and I have never had a problem with celebrating Christmas on December 25th—or any date for that matter. We rarely get to celebrate our anniversary or other special days on the actual date because there is usually something in our lives that makes us move the celebration. So, what’s the big deal about celebrating Jesus’ birthday on December 25th?

Christmas is a reminder that God steps into our world and shows up in the most unlikely places to impact us. Regardless of what we may be experiencing right now Jesus wants to show up for us.

Let’s not get so focused on the struggles of life that we miss out on the opportunity to experience God’s presence with us.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit please help me be prepared this Christmas season to meet Jesus fresh and new. Help me to confidently wait for Your presence in my life in a new way.
