ENJOY LIFE AND LAUGH!
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
1 Corinthians 9:25 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Reading this passage reminds me of a comment I heard the great football coach, Tom Landry, make when asked about his job. He said, “I am paid to get grown men to do what they don’t want to do in order to get what they want to get.”
As followers of Christ, we are in a battle. It is not a battle against people but against spiritual forces that would like to confuse and get us to mess up our lives. These spiritual forces appeal to our flesh through deception to get our mind, will, and emotions to make unwise choices.
One of the big deceptions is Satan’s lie that God is against us having any fun or enjoying life. Many people think that becoming a Christian means the party is over. The lie they have accepted is that being spiritual is to be miserable.
Many people find themselves locked in a cycle of trying to get the next thrill only to be practicing the law of diminishing returns. They spend more time, more money, and more energy to get less and less of a thrill.
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and invite the Holy Spirit to be our guide for life, we are putting ourselves on the path that leads us to eternal life. This “eternal life” is not just for going to heaven after we die. This is the life of God living in and through us right now.
When we live with a clear conscience, secure in God’s love, and surrounded with friends that aren’t trying to manipulate us we can discover a life full of joy. We can be free of anxiety and worry because we are full of peace and joy.
The self-discipline the Holy Spirit brings into our lives is not to make us miserable but to free us. To allow us to really enjoy life.
The Bible says God "richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment." (1 Timothy 6:17b NIV) God wants you to enjoy life! God wants you to laugh. God wants you to know real joy not just a temporary fix that soon departs.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit I am depending on You to be my guide and coach. Help me to be a disciplined person so I can know what true joy is. Show me what I can do to experience life the way You intended it to be enjoyed.
