THIS IS THE GOOD NEWS!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
"This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began..."
Mark 1:1 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Everyone loves hearing good news. But have you ever noticed how people often want to start with all the backstory before they deliver the main message? Those details help us understand why the news is so good.
Mark opens his Gospel by cutting straight to the chase: his entire purpose is to share the "Good News about Jesus." Drawing directly from the eyewitness testimony of the apostle Peter, Mark wrote with urgency to share the life and ministry of Jesus with a Roman/Gentile audience.
Each Gospel writer carried a unique perspective tailored to their readers. Matthew wrote to a Jewish audience, emphasizing fulfilled Old Testament prophecies. John addressed readers familiar with Rabbinic and Greek thought. Mark, writing for a non-Jewish Roman audience, didn't slow down to unpack centuries of Jewish tradition; instead, he communicated in a way that directly engaged the culture he was trying to reach.
Mark gives us a fast-paced, vivid account of where Jesus went, what He said, and what He did. It is a Gospel of action and response—it shows us how people reacted to Jesus and challenges us to decide how we will react to Him as well (Mark 16:16).
Key Takeaways
1. Know Your Audience
The message of the Gospel never changes, but our approach to sharing it should adapt based on who is listening. When meeting people, look for common ground—a natural doorway to open their minds and hearts to Jesus. Mark knew his readers valued action and authority, so he jumped straight into Jesus' active ministry.
2. Experience the Joy of Sharing
We never need to be hesitant or ashamed to share the Good News: God loved the world so deeply that He sent His Son to live, die on the cross, and rise again. We have the incredible privilege of carrying a message that brings real forgiveness, freedom, fulfillment, and restoration.
Remarkably, God chose imperfect humans—not angels or flawless saints—to carry the greatest news in history. Every single one of us shares this opportunity and call.
