DON’T MAKE A PRACTICE OF SINNING

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.

1 John 5:18-19 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

There is a difference between committing a sin and practicing sin. No one is perfect. As followers of Jesus, we have a transformed heart, and our desire is to please God. Our new nature wants to do what is right and pleasing to our Heavenly Father. However, we still have a free-will. Sin comes at us from the world, the flesh, and Satan. In our moments of weakness, we may sin—but Jesus is holding us even in our failure. When we confess and repent of our sin we are renewed and cleansed. This does not mean we can just go around sinning and repenting. That is practicing sin and a sign that we have not been transformed by the grace of God. We do not have to live in fear of Satan, the world, or the flesh. Jesus is holding us and “the evil one cannot touch” us. Satan is the controller of the world and uses the flesh to gain access to our spirit. When we live in harmony with God’s Word, we cannot be touched by the evil one. Jesus told His followers that Satan was coming but He wasn’t afraid because Satan had no hold on Him (John 14:30). Because Jesus was in harmony with the Father’s will and lived without sin Satan had no claim to His life. That is why the grave could not hold Jesus. Today we do not have to live in fear of Satan. When we yield our lives to the Lord Jesus and live in obedience to God’s Word there is no room for fear. We are protected and Satan has no claim on our lives. He may attack and bring temporary discomfort or pain, but in the end WE WIN.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit please examine my heart. Show me any area of my life where I have opened the door for Satan. Help me to keep all doors of sin closed in my life.
