A TORCH BEARER NOW!
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Two thousand years ago Paul wrote to believers who were living in a “crooked and perverse” society. His words of encouragement and instruction fit us well in today’s culture. Paul instructs us “hold firmly to the word of life.” This is an interesting word picture in the Greek. It is the picture of someone holding a torch in their hand to give guidance. The torch was to allow people to see what direction to go. The darker it was the brighter the torch showed the way. This is our challenge today. We are to be “torch bearers” for the message of light. We bear the torch when we choose to live “clean, innocent lives.” When we invite the Holy Spirit to guide our lives, we will be living our lives above reproach. These will be lives without sin, judgement, jealously, anger, greed, selfishness, and pride. Dr. Seuss once said, “Why fit in when you can stand out?” I believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to stand out as torch bearers in a society that has lost their way in the darkness. They need someone with a message of clarity that is marked by a life of purity. Let’s not compromise the truth.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit show me anything in my life that would dim your Spirit and distract Your light from shining through me. Help me to be a torch bearer in this generation.
