THE PROBLEM OF ANGER

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

An angry person starts fights; a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin.

Proverbs 29:22 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Let’s talk about the problem of anger. I can speak on this topic because in my younger days I had quite a temper. I could go from 1 to 60 in a moment. Nothing good ever came from me blowing my top.

Recently I have been reading a book about our present world of rage. It is an interesting and insightful book on the impact anger is having on our culture and Christianity.

The Bible is very clear that anger leads to danger. (You might notice that danger is just anger with a “d.”) One man said, “When we lose our cool, we lose.” We can’t get to the top if we blow our top.

As followers of Christ, we don’t have to do this alone. We have the Holy Spirit living in us and the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control (Gal. 5:20-21).

When we lean into the Holy Spirit and ask for His help, He will transform our hearts so that we begin to live in peace, patience, and gentleness.

I’m not saying it will happen overnight. There will be some wins and some losses. But as we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts the wins will be more than the losses. We will be transformed into a person of peace.

Something I must remind myself; no one can make me angry. I choose to become angry. I want to make sure I’m making the right choice.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to control my anger. Help me to listen to You in the moments when I feel anger within me raising up.

“Scroll down to share what you feel God is saying based on today’s reading.”
