GIVEN A NEW NAME

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“The nations will see your righteousness. World leaders will be blinded by your glory. And you will be given a new name by the Lord’s own mouth.”

 Isaiah 62:2 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The story of Mephibosheth doesn’t end with a single, polite meal at the palace. It ends with a total restoration of his identity. He didn’t just visit the King; he moved in. He didn't just receive a handout; he received an inheritance.

1. Tearing Off the Old Labels

In our world, we are often defined by our labels—and many of them we’ve pinned on ourselves. Because of the "drops" in our past or our own bad choices, we carry labels like "The Addict," "The Victim," "The Failure," or "The Forgotten." We carry these into our marriages, our careers, and even our walk with God.

But when Grace calls you out of Lo Debar, you aren't just given a new residence; you are given a new identity. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that anyone in Christ is a "new creation." The old life has passed away. Your past may be part of your history, but it is no longer your identity.

2. From Defeat to Testimony

The enemy wants your past rejections and failures to bring you perpetual shame. He wants you to live in the constant reminder of your mistakes.

But in the Kingdom, God takes the very things that once shamed you and transforms them into a testimony.

  • In Lo Debar, Mephibosheth’s limp was a sign of his defeat.

  • In the Palace, his limp became a sign of the King’s incredible mercy.

When you move out of Lo Debar, you can finally talk about the past from a position of victory rather than shame. You aren't "the one who fell"; you are "the one the King found."

3. The New Name

The most powerful shift happens when you realize God has a new name for you. He doesn't call you by your sin or your trauma. He calls you "Child," "Heir," "Redeemed," and "Friend." Mephibosheth went from being a "dead dog" in his own eyes to being "like one of the king’s own sons" in the eyes of the palace.

The "Identity" Audit

Your "address" has changed. It's time to start acting like a resident of the Palace.

  • The Reflection: What is the "new name" God is speaking over you today? Take a moment to declare: "I am not what I did. I am not what was done to me. I am who God says I am."

  • The Move: Every time an old thought of shame from Lo Debar tries to enter your mind today, "evict" it by speaking your new name.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, transform my mind to see myself exactly the way You see me. In the name of Jesus, I refuse to allow my past to dictate my future or weigh me down with shame. I am no longer a resident of Lo Debar; I am a child of the Living God. Thank You for my new name and my new life. Amen.
