CHANGING THE WAY I THINK
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:2 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
If I have an anger issue in my life, I must decide to change that behavior. To change a behavior, I must change the way I think. My thoughts are the control center of my behavior. I can’t change behavior without changing my thinking.
Gary Smalley suggests you begin changing your thinking by asking yourself questions like, "Do I enjoy getting angry?" "Does it produce the intended results when I get angry?" "Could I get the same results in a more effective way?" "How would I be different?"
Smalley suggests that you write a letter to yourself and address these questions in the letter. Include some scripture on anger. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you write the letter. Then read this letter out loud to yourself at least once a week for six months. That will mean you read the letter to yourself 26 times.
The repetition of reading this kind of a letter will impact your thinking. You will be using the Word of God and the Spirit of God to reinforce the right way to begin to think.
The Holy Spirit can and will transform us when we choose to partner with Him. He can correct what is wrong and strengthen what is right.
