HOW TO CONTROL ANGER

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people, or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul.

Proverbs 22:24-25 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

NEWSFLASH—anger is contagious!!

Yes, we learn how to express our anger from other people. Every time a parent blows up at their child, they are teaching their child how to express anger. If a parent disciplines a child out of anger the child learns when they get angry it is okay to hit someone.

If you hang around people who yell at other people when they are angry you will begin to yell at people when you are angry. If you hang around people who hold in their anger and refuse to discuss their anger, then you will choose to do likewise. Holding anger inside is no better than yelling or hitting—all are inappropriate ways to handle anger.

This is why it is so crucial to associate with mature people who have learned positive ways to handle anger. You need to be in a local church family and a small group of believers where you can keep each other accountable for your attitudes and actions.

We are better together—especially when it comes to learning how to express anger in a positive way. There will be circumstances and people that give us cause to become angry. We must learn to channel that anger in an appropriate manner. We must learn to express our anger to the right people, the right way, and at the right time.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to surround myself with other people who have learned to control anger. Help me to be accountable to others for my attitudes and behavior. Help me to learn how to be angry and sin not.
