WHEN GOD SPEAKS, LIFE IS RELEASED

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe. And then, dear brothers and sisters, you suffered persecution from your own countrymen. In this way, you imitated the believers in God’s churches in Judea... For some of the Jews killed the prophets, and some even killed the Lord Jesus. Now they have persecuted us, too.”

1 Thessalonians 2:13-16 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Paul continues to brag on the Thessalonians, but this time he shifts from what they were doing to how they were listening. They didn't just hear a sermon; they received life-altering truth. Here are three things we need to understand about the Word of God:

1. It is Divine, Not Human

The Thessalonians didn't treat Paul’s message as "mere human ideas." It has been said that the Gospel is not the kind of message man would invent if he could, nor is it a message he could invent if he would. When you read the Bible or hear a Spirit-led word, it carries a supernatural weight that convicts the heart and shifts the soul. It isn't just "good advice"; it is the very Word of God.

2. It is an Ongoing Power

Paul says this Word “continues to work in you.” The Word of God has the same creative power found in Genesis. When God speaks, life is released. In the original Greek, "believe" is a verb indicating continuing action. The Word doesn't just get you saved; it keeps working on you—refining your character, transforming your thinking, and shaping you into the image of Christ every single day.

3. It is Your Anchor in Opposition

When Christians face criticism or hardship, we are often tempted to think God’s blessing has left us. Paul counters this lie by reminding us that the greatest heroes of the faith—and even Jesus Himself—faced severe persecution. Following Jesus is not for those seeking a life of ease; it often involves a cross. But when you are rooted in the Word, you can stand firm even when you are treated like an outsider by the world.

Today’s Reflection

  • Intake: When you read the Bible or hear a message, do you treat it as just "another opinion," or do you approach it as the very Word of God for your life?

  • Growth: Are you more like Jesus today than you were six months ago? How is the Word "continuously working" in your life right now?

  • Resilience: Is your faith strong enough to endure a "cross," or is it only active when life feels comfortable?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, I invite You to be my Teacher and Guide. Teach me and show me where I need to grow. Help me to be firmly rooted in Your Word so that my faith stands firm in every season, the easy ones and the difficult ones. Amen.
