POWER OF A SHARED FAITH

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“But now Timothy has just returned, bringing us good news about your faith and love. He reports that you always remember our visit with joy and that you want to see us as much as we want to see you. So we have been greatly encouraged in the midst of our troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives us new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord.”

1 Thessalonians 3:6-8 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

This was written in the wake of a celebration. Timothy had just returned from checking on the Thessalonians, and his report was full of "good news." But notice the effect this had on Paul: he was "greatly encouraged" amid his own suffering because they were standing firm.

Here are three observations about the power of a shared faith:

1. Your Faith is a Gift to Others

We often think of our faith journey as a private matter, but our faith is a communal experience. When you stand strong in a storm, you provide a roadmap for others. I witnessed my mom live through two battles with cancer, and never once did I hear her get angry at God. Her strength in that suffering became a foundation for my own faith. When my life gets tough, I remember her, and it motivates me to leave that same legacy for my children and grandchildren.

2. We Give "New Life" to Our Leaders

Paul says, “It gives us new life to know that you are standing firm.” If you are part of a church or a small group, know that your growth and steadfastness are the greatest encouragement your pastors and leaders could ever receive. Your victory isn't just yours; it breathes life into the people who have invested in you.

3. Life is Too Tough to Do Alone

This passage is a beautiful picture of meaningful connection. We need more than just a seat in a Sunday morning service; we need authentic relationships where we can see each other's faith in action. Small groups and intentional friendships are where we find the strength to stay upright when the world tries to knock us down.

Don't try to go through life by yourself, it wasn't designed to be lived that way.

Today’s Reflection

  • Legacy: Who in your life has modeled a "standing firm" faith for you? Take a moment to thank God for their example today.

  • Circle: Are you currently in a small group or a circle of friends where you can be authentic about your struggles? If not, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you toward those relationships.

  • Impact: Who might be "watching" your faith today? How can your steadfastness give "new life" to someone else in your family or community?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help my faith to be an example to others. Help me to remember that people are watching and let my life be a source of encouragement to them. Plant me into meaningful, authentic relationships where I can be both a source of strength and a recipient of grace. Amen.
