REFLECT THE LIGHT OF JESUS

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.”
Isaiah 9:2 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isaiah’s prophecy points forward to the arrival of Jesus—the One who would pierce the deepest darkness with His life and truth. When he spoke of “deep darkness,” he wasn’t exaggerating. He was describing the very real heaviness that life can bring. Many today know exactly what that feels like. Circumstances, painful choices, or the actions of others can leave life feeling uncertain, shadowed, and hard to navigate.
As I write, the morning outside is covered in thick fog. The view is dim, gray, and a little unsettling—almost inviting you to crawl back under the covers. Yet the forecast promises the fog will lift and the sun will break through. That image captures what Jesus came to do. He didn’t just offer light; He is the Light.
In John’s gospel, Jesus describes Himself this way more than once. One of the clearest moments is found in John 8:12:
“I am the light of the world.
If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness,
because you will have the light that leads to life.”
What a promise.
Following Jesus doesn’t mean darkness won’t try to settle in—but it does mean darkness no longer has the final say. His light pushes back fear, confusion, frustration, hurt, loneliness, bitterness, and anger. His presence gives clarity and direction when everything else feels foggy.
The light of Jesus’ isn’t just something we receive. It’s something we’re called to reflect. Peter reminds us of this responsibility in 1 Peter 2:9:
“…As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
We were rescued so we could help others find their way. Every day brings opportunities to shine—through kindness, encouragement, generosity, forgiveness, patience, and simple presence. Especially during this season, the world is full of people walking through their own “deep darkness.” We get to carry light to them.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me reflect the light of Jesus wherever I go. Make me aware of those around me who need hope, clarity, and encouragement. Let Your light shine through me in meaningful ways this Christmas season.
