GOD’S GIFT OF A SAVIOR

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

Luke 2:11 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

What does it mean that God sent a Savior into the world? Four years ago I struggled so bad with pain in my back my quality of life was threatened. I literally reached a point of pain that I could not dress myself. I had to lay on the bed and my wife had to put on my pants, shoes, and socks. I had a great medical team with two skilled surgeons who were my saviors. Their skill saved me from debilitating agony. They gave me life. Everyday there are saviors who rescue people from burning buildings or flooding waters. They are in the right place at the right moment to save someone from the fire or the flood. A savior is someone who saves a person who can’t save themselves. When God looked at humanity, He realized we needed a savior. Our greatest need was not a teacher, coach, or friend. Our greatest need was a Savior. We were trapped in our sins and could not save ourselves. Jesus came to free us from the control and consequences of sin. When we make Jesus the Lord of our lives, we break the control and consequences of sin. We are no longer a slave to sin. We have the freedom to live in God’s grace and mercy without guilt and shame. This Christmas, let’s remember God’s gift of a Savior!
