GOD’S PLAN IS BETTER
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
Luke 2:1-7 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes life doesn’t go according to our plans, but God’s plan is always better!
Two thousand years ago Mary and Joseph had a plan. I’m sure their plan did not include a pregnancy blefore marriage, a forced trip to Bethlehem, and only a barn for lodging on the night Jesus was born. Yet this was part of God’s plan.
I doubt that Joseph told Mary this was all to fulfill the prophecy about the birth of the Messiah. That bit of revelation would come later. At this moment they were just struggling to make it through the trip and the pain of childbirth.
Often, we don’t see the hand of God working in our lives until we look in the rear-view mirror. After the fact we realize that God has mapped out His plan for us even when we didn’t understand what was going on.
When we submit our lives to Jesus as our Lord we are submitting our plans to His plans. We are declaring that His ways are better than our ways. We are choosing to live obedient to His Word even when our flesh may want to go a different direction.
It is in the daily decision of obedience that we reach the destiny God has for us. The small daily decisions turn into habits and a lifestyle that puts us in the place God destined for us. When we are in that place, we discover God’s favor, provision, protection, and presence.
If there are areas of our lives, we haven’t surrendered to God’s will, today would be a great time to admit our mistake, ask forgiveness, and recommit to follow His will.
