GOD’S NAME IS HOLY!
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
Matthew 6:9 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus taught us to begin our prayers by acknowledging our Heavenly Father, and we want His name to be kept holy. When you think about that you might be tempted to say, “Isn’t that like asking water to be wet?” “Isn’t God’s name holy?” The idea Jesus is communicating is that we should begin our prayer time by pausing to reflect on Who God is by the names given to Him in the Bible. Names are important. When I mention the name Tom Brady you probably think about one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time who should have probably stayed retired when he was still playing like a champion. The name draws all kinds of connections with who he is and what he has done. We should remind ourselves that God is Elohim—the strong creator God who created everything out of nothing. He is El Shaddai—the all-powerful God Who is more than enough. He is Jehovah-Tsidkenu—the Lord is our righteousness. Jehovah M’kaddesh—the Lord our sanctification. Jehovah-Shalom—the Lord our peace. Jehovah-Shammah—the Lord is present. Jehovah-Rapha—the Lord our healer. Jehovah-Jireh—the Lord our provider. When we take time to declare who God is we are building our faith in what God can do in and through our lives. We expand our view of God. This is what worship should be. Our worship expands our view of God. Our every prayer should begin with personal worship of God.
