NOURISHMENT FOR OUR SOULS

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.”

Jeremiah 15:16 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

What foundation are you building your life on?

Jesus once spoke of two builders—a wise one and a foolish one (Matthew 7:24-27). Both heard the Word of God, but only one put it into practice. The difference wasn’t knowledge; it was obedience. The wise builder allowed the Word to shape how he lived.

The prophet Jeremiah lived in desperate times in Judah. His message was rejected, his warnings ignored, and his faithfulness often met with loneliness. Yet Jeremiah remained steady because he didn’t just hear God’s Word—he devoured it. God’s Word was not a burden to him; it was his joy and his delight.

When you open the Bible, what motivates you? Is it obedience, routine, or genuine delight? Do you approach Scripture expecting God to speak, to guide, and to shape your life? Do you pause long enough to ask how His Word applies to your decisions, attitudes, and relationships?

At the beginning of the year, many people commit to Bible reading plans. This is a good and healthy discipline. But we must guard against reading simply to check a box. Instead, we read to encounter God and invite the Holy Spirit to help us live out what we are learning.

The Word of God is nourishment for our souls. It has the power to reach deep into our hearts, exposing truth and bringing transformation. Let’s not handle it casually. Let’s approach it with hunger, expectancy, and a willingness to obey what God reveals.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, You are my Teacher and my Guide. Today I invite You to speak to me through Your Word. Transform the way I think and shape my life to reflect Christ. Amen.

January 10, 2026:

I had never thought of Jeremiah's joy and delight in God's Word in the same light as the wise builder of Matthew 7:24-25. I really like this. Of course it is not just knowing and acting on the Word that makes a firm foundation but it is also taking our joy and delight in His Word. Thank you! Marlyse
