FOCUS ON WHAT GOD CREATED US TO DO
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them.
Luke 4:42 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Two thoughts about making difficult decisions. First, the most difficult decisions are not between what is good and bad—those decisions should be easy for a Spirit-filled child of God.
The difficult decisions are between what is good and what is best. Jesus faced this decision daily in His time on earth. When Jesus goes off for a time of prayer there were people looking for Him to come and do another miracle.
There was nothing wrong with Jesus doing miracles, but Jesus knew His purpose on earth was to do more than miracles. His purpose was to teach about the coming of the kingdom of God and die on a cross for the sins of humanity.
Jesus understood He had to have private time with His Heavenly Father to keep His focus on what was the most important purpose of His life. If Jesus had to do that, why do we think we can survive and stay on purpose without spending quality time with our Heavenly Father.
The second thing I have learned about difficult decisions is that they get easier when we make the right little decisions. When we develop habits of spending time in the Word of God and prayer, we begin to discover the big decisions become a combination of a lot of little decisions.
This is part of our work during this time of prayer and fasting. We are making a daily decision to deny our flesh to open space in our spirit life for greater sensitivity to the Spirit of God. That little decision opens the door for greater clarity about what is most important in our lives.
It is easy to see the sin that needs to be removed from our lives. But what about the good things that are keeping us from the best things?
When God created us, He had a purpose and plan for our lives. This is the highest calling of our lives. When we focus our energy and attention on what God has created us to do we become effective and fulfilled.
Listen to the Holy Spirit. Take time to journal what the Spirit is saying during this season. The revelation you write during this season can give great clarity down the road of life and assist in future decisions.
