PRAYER AND POWER
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
When he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are in a spiritual war. It is a real war with a real enemy—Satan. He controls the evil spirits of the heavenly realm. God has given us everything we need to be victorious in this war—the armor of God and prayer. We must daily dress ourselves in the armor of God and we must daily join with our Heavenly Father in prayer.
I like what Billy Sunday is quoted as saying, “If you are strangers to prayer, you are strangers to power.”
Before His arrest and crucifixion Jesus went into a garden to pray. He knew He and the disciples would need strength for what was ahead. However, they didn’t know what was ahead, but He did. This is why Jesus led them to prayer.
We often don’t know what is ahead either. Sometimes we are lulled into complacency because we think things are going well. Those are dangerous moments. That is when we can be blindsided by a sickness, temptation, or attack on our finances or relationships.
As followers of Jesus the Holy Spirit lives inside of us. He wants to lead us to prayer. He wants to direct our prayers. He wants us to be prepared in advance for everything the enemy is going to throw at us.
The Holy Spirit knows our tomorrow better than we know our yesterday. Let’s not be lazy and become victims of the enemy’s attacks. Let’s be people who take time each day to pray.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I commit myself to be a person of prayer. I ask You to direct my prayers and lead me into times to connect with You.
