KEEP ALERT AT ALL TIMES

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.

Luke 21:34-36 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Let’s pause a moment and reflect on this passage. If you are a follower of Christ hopefully you don’t have a struggle with carousing and drunkenness. You have already made the choice to not allow these things to be a part of your life. But what about the “worries of this life?”

I know a lot of followers of Christ who get very distracted by the “worries of this life.” My job, my family, stuff that needs to be fixed, parties to attend, kids’ sports activities, the latest TV show or movie that is out, the new reel on social media—the list could go on and on. I even find myself struggling at times with the distractions of my life.

This is why Jesus tells us to “keep alert at all times” and “pray that you might be strong enough.” I believe our ability to develop a consistent habit of prayer is what keeps us alert.

I am convinced that having a consistent prayer life where we daily spend time with God allows our spirit man to stay in alignment with our Heavenly Father. It is in my times of prayer that I sense the conviction of the Holy Spirit about changes that need to be made in my life. I find when I am sensitive to the little changes that need to be made, the big changes come rather easily. The biggest changes in my life are actually a combination of a lot of little changes in the right direction.

Are you having a daily time where the Spirit of God can impress on your life changes that you need to make this year? Are you putting yourself in a position to be able to hear from God’s Spirit on a regular basis?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit I need Your direction in my life. I need You to teach me and transform me. I need You to show me where I need to change and how I need to change.
