DRESS FOR YOUR DESTINY
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.”
Colossians 3:9-10 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
The moment we choose to follow Jesus, a miracle occurs: we are made new. Paul describes this as "stripping off" an old, tattered nature and its wicked deeds.
This is the transformation brought about by God’s grace. But for that transformation to stick, we must move toward conformation—daily choosing to be conformed to the image of Christ.
The Image Consultant
Imagine you suddenly received a financial windfall and hired a world-class image consultant. They clear out your closet and replace everything with high-end, custom clothing for every occasion—work, the gym, formal events, and daily wear.
At first, it’s overwhelming. Your old clothes were comfortable; you’ve lived in them for years. But the new clothes convey a completely different identity. Every morning, you face a choice: Do I go back to the old, familiar rags, or do I step into this new image?
A Daily Decision
This is the spiritual choice we make every single morning. We choose to "put on" our new nature to become more like Jesus.
The "old clothes" represent our former attitudes, habits, and ways of speaking.
The "new nature" represents the character of Christ.
Over time, as we wear the new nature, the old clothes eventually lose their appeal. We don’t want that "look" anymore because we have truly become a different person.
Inside-Out Transformation
The beauty of the Holy Spirit’s work is that He starts on the inside. He transforms our hearts and desires first, and then it begins to show up on the outside—in how we talk, how we treat others, and how we carry ourselves. You aren't just "playing dress-up"; you are becoming who God created you to be.
Today, make a conscious choice: Don't reach for the old nature. Step into the new one.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me as I "put on" my new nature. Show me the areas where I’ve let the old nature slip back in—whether in my thoughts or my words. Forgive me and cleanse me and help me to walk through this day looking and acting more like Jesus. Amen.
