THE SECRET TO NEW STRENGTH

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The translators of the NLT chose the phrase “trust in the Lord,” while many other versions use “wait on the Lord.” Perhaps they knew that in our modern, "instant" culture, waiting isn't very popular. We often struggle when God doesn't act on our timeline.

However, the original Hebrew word used here is Qavah, and it changes everything.

Expectation vs. Passivity

Qavah implies “looking forward to what is coming.” It isn't a passive word; it doesn't mean sitting on the couch watching TV until God does something. It describes an active expectation—a heart so focused on what God is about to do that you grow closer to Him in the process.

The Power of the Exchange

The phrase “find new strength” comes from the Hebrew word Chalaph. In various contexts, it means to sprout again, to change for the better, or to show newness.

When we actively trust and wait, we aren't just holding our breath—we are being changed for the better. We are being infused with new energy and life. This transformation manifests in three ways:

  • Soaring: Moments of high-flying vision and supernatural ease.

  • Running: Seasons of fast-paced progress and high energy.

  • Walking: The steady, daily grit of putting one foot in front of the other.

The Victory of the Walk

We all love the idea of soaring like an eagle or running a race. But honestly? A lot of life is just walking.

Sometimes the greatest act of faith isn't flying; it’s simply refusing to quit. Whether you are soaring, running, or walking, the goal is the same: Move forward. We aren't idly waiting for God to act; we are improving and growing every day, becoming the people, He created us to be.

Even in the "walking" seasons, if you are trusting Him, you are still gaining ground.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, teach me the art of active waiting. Help me to "Qavah"—to look forward with such expectation that I am changed in Your presence. Whether today requires me to soar, run, or simply walk, give me the strength to keep moving forward in You. Amen.
