MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Money is not evil! Some try to teach that the Bible says money is the root of our evil—but that is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible says, “the love of money is the root of all evil.” You can love money and not have a dime to your name. God wants His children to prosper in every area of our lives—including our finances. But we must understand every area of our life is connected—we can’t prosper financially if we are spiritually bankrupt. At least we can’t prosper the way God wants us to prosper. Paul gives some practical instructions on handling money—first, don’t be proud. Don’t try to impress others with what you have. Money has a spirit attached to it that can really mess people up. It can easily create pride in people. Guard against pride. Secondly, don’t trust in your money. Our trust must always remain in God. He is the one Who blesses us and gives us the opportunity to prosper. We must always put our trust in God. Thirdly, notice that Paul says God gives us all we need for our enjoyment. It is not sinful to have resources that you can enjoy. God gives us not just money but health, relationships, and talents so that we can enjoy life. Fourth, the financial resources God gives us should be used to do good. We should never use everything God gives us on ourselves. We should realize that the time, talent, and treasure that God gives to us is not just for our personal benefit. Our time, talent, and treasure are to be used to help others. It has been said, we make a life by what we give not by what we get!

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to be wise with the time, talent, and treasure You have given to me. Help me to do good works with what You have blessed me with.
