IT STARTS WITH GOD’S WORD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
Psalm 119:105 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hearing from God Starts with His Word
One of the most consistent and trustworthy ways to hear from God is by reading His Word. Scripture is more than ancient wisdom—it’s God’s living guide for everyday life. When we read it prayerfully and invite the Holy Spirit to speak through it, we discover two powerful benefits: direction and protection.
1. Direction – “A lamp to guide my feet”
Think of God’s Word like a GPS—but not just any GPS. It’s more like Waze, always current, aware of real-time conditions. I rarely drive anywhere without plugging the address into my Waze app—it knows shortcuts, detours, accidents, and delays. Meanwhile, the old road atlas in my car might give me the general route, but it’s outdated and blind to today’s traffic.
In the same way, when we read the Word and listen to the Holy Spirit, we get step-by-step direction. He knows what’s ahead, where the road narrows, where to avoid a turn, and the best route to take for God’s timing and will.
Reflection: Are you relying on the “old map” of your own experience, or are you letting God’s Word and Spirit guide you like a spiritual GPS?
2. Protection – “A light for my path”
Ever try walking through a dark room at night? I’ve done it to avoid waking up Cindy, but often I’ve stubbed my toe or bumped into furniture—and let out a loud cry anyway. A small light would’ve saved me pain and prevented the disturbance.
God’s Word works like that light. When we read Scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal its meaning, we can see the obstacles ahead. Many people read the Bible, but never pause to listen for God’s application to their lives. Reading gives information. Reflection with the Spirit brings transformation.
Reflection: Are you just reading the Bible, or are you inviting the Holy Spirit to “turn on the light” and show you where to walk—and what to avoid?
Final Encouragement
Let’s commit to reading the Word daily—not just as a habit, but with an open heart, asking the Holy Spirit to speak clearly. Let Him guide you like a GPS and guard you like a nightlight. You’ll avoid unnecessary pain and stay on the path God has prepared for you.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I need Your direction and protection in my life. Guide me in the right paths of righteousness. Show me what to avoid. Make God’s Word come alive in me today. Amen.
