HIS INTIMACY WITH THE ALMIGHTY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Then the Lord descended in the pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tabernacle. 'Aaron and Miriam!' he called, and they stepped forward. And the Lord said to them, 'Now listen to what I say: If there were prophets among you, I, the Lord, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams. But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust. I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the Lord as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?' The Lord was very angry with them, and he departed.”
Numbers 12:5-9 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we think about Moses, we usually focus on his monumental leadership. He stood toe-to-toe with Pharaoh, the most powerful ruler of his day, and led two million Israelites out of Egyptian slavery toward the Promised Land. Beyond that, he penned the first five books of the Bible, received the Ten Commandments directly from God, and constructed the Tabernacle.
Few of us will ever carry that kind of historical weight.
Yet, the true secret of Moses’ life wasn't his leadership strategy, it was his intimacy with the Almighty. While you and I may never lead millions of people, we can absolutely experience the one thing that transformed Moses the most: consistent encounters with God.
God said of him, “I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles!”
Oh, how we should long for that kind of clarity in our own walk with God! But how do we cultivate that deep, intimate connection? Moses’ journey shows us three essential steps:
1. Start with Curiosity
Moses’ very first encounter with God began at a burning bush. He was simply curious about why a bush could be ablaze without burning up. Because he turned aside to look, God spoke to him and revealed his life's mission. God often speaks in the unexpected; we just must be attentive enough to notice.
2. Activate Your Courage
Hearing God requires the courage to obey Him. Why would God give us a new word if we haven’t acted on the last one, He gave? Throughout his confrontations with Pharaoh, Moses repeatedly obeyed instructions that didn't yield immediate, positive results. He kept moving forward, even when things looked bleak.
3. Maintain Consistency
Moses constantly went back to the tent of meeting for fresh direction. Even when his own family questioned his authority, he remained anchored in his routine of listening and obeying.
Personal Application
No matter how long we have walked with the Lord, these three traits must remain active. I am seventy years old and have spent my entire life in church, yet I still believe the Holy Spirit has fresh, unrevealed things to show me. I want to stay curious about what He is doing next.
I want to stay courageous—willing to step out in faith even when I don’t have it all figured out. It's easy to fall into "paralysis by analysis," waiting for perfect clarity before taking a step. But faith requires movement.
I want to stay consistent. Seasons change, and life fluctuates wildly, but our commitment to God’s Word and His presence can remain an immovable anchor.
Questions for Reflection
Am I truly curious about what God wants to show me next, or have I become comfortable?
Where is God asking me to step out in faith, even if I don’t understand the whole picture?
Is my spiritual life consistent, or is it dependent on my current circumstances?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I want to hear the voice of God clearly. I want to know Your plans and Your purposes for my life. Open my ears to hear You and give me the courage to immediately obey. Help me remain consistent through every season—both the good and the bad. Amen.
