DON’T GET DISCOURAGED
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Then the people of Judah began to complain, “The workers are getting tired, and there is so much rubble to be moved. We will never be able to build the wall by ourselves.”
Nehemiah 4:10 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Nehemiah gives us four reasons why people get discouraged and want to give up. The first is fatigue. We can get physically tired due to issues we are facing. The answer for being tired is a break to renew the body, mind, and spirit.
The second reason is being frustrated. Nehemiah mentioned “so much rubble.” The rubble is the trivial things that will distract us from the main task God has for us. We often need to look at our schedule and see where we are wasting time. Are there some things we need to stop doing?
Thirdly is failure. We can get a sense of hopelessness because the task God has given us is not solved overnight. Often the timing of God is not the same as the timing we would like. Most tasks that God calls us to take require time to process and accomplish. We can begin to interpret delay as failure and want to give up.
Finally, we must deal with fear. The task God calls us to are often bigger than what we can handle in our own strength or resources. We must overcome the fear with faith. We are called to live by faith. It sounds easy but it is not. We must move forward when we don’t have all the answers.
Satan will do everything he can to make us tired, frustrated, having a pity party, and afraid. We must take courage that God is for us and will cause us to triumph.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I ask You to help me to keep my eyes on You. Help me to not allow discouragement to drag me down and make me quit.
