Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

Ephesians 1:11 NLT

Our passage tells us that God “makes everything work out according to his plan.” Notice the word “everything.” This means that God is not only interested in what I do with my Sunday mornings, He is interested in every hour of every day of my life.

In our western culture we often compartmentalize. We tell ourselves that when we go to church, pray, read our Bible, and help others that is our spiritual life. When we go to work or out for dinner with friends that is our secular life. We believe we can live one way in our spiritual life and another way in our secular life.

When you think about that you should realize that doesn’t make sense. It would be like me telling my wife, Cindy, when I come home, I am going to act married. But when I go to work or to the golf course, I’m going to act single. I am going to choose when I will be married and when I will be single.

News flash, marriage doesn’t work that way. You can’t have a successful marriage on a part-time commitment. You can’t decide to act married four days a week and live single three days a week. You must be one or the other.

The most miserable people are those who try to be half committed to one way or the other. They try to serve God on Sunday and serve themselves during the week.

True peace, joy, and fulfillment in life is connecting every part of our lives into a unified decision. We make the decision to go all in as followers of Jesus. This means I will act at work on Monday the same as I act at church on Sunday.

God wants to use every part of our life to accomplish His purpose and plan for us. Our marriage (or singleness), our work, our entertainment choices, our relationships, and our finances to accomplish His purpose in our life. God wants every part of our life working together to fulfill His purpose and plan.

Holy Spirit work in me. Work in every part of me. Help me to connect every part of my life in a manner that brings glory to You.
