GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient One sat down to judge. His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool. He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire, and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.
Daniel 7:9-10 NLT
As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.
Daniel 7:13-14 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
As we enter Daniel 7 there is a shift in the writing. Daniel moves from third party telling the story to first-person. He writes one of the most dramatic and symbolic chapters in the Old Testament. It begins with a vision of terrifying beasts—representing chaotic world powers—but ends with a throne room scene that shifts our focus to the true King: The “Ancient of Days”, and to “one like a son of man” who is given everlasting dominion.
Many people seem to invest most of their time studying the various kingdoms represented by the animals Daniel saw in his vision. But the vision is not about Babylon, Medes and Persian, Greeks, or Roman kingdoms. The vision is a reminder that God is still on the throne and calling the shots.
In the middle of political unrest, cultural exile, and personal uncertainty, Daniel is given a vision that re-centers him—and us—on the sovereignty of God. Empires rise and fall. Kings rage and rebel. But God is seated, not shaken. He is not pacing the halls of heaven. He rules in majesty and justice.
The title “Ancient of Days” reminds us that God is eternal—He existed before all things and will outlast every kingdom. His rule is not temporary or contested. And “one like a son of man” points forward to Jesus Christ, who used this very title for Himself. Though Daniel only saw a glimpse, we now know that Jesus is the Son of Man who has been given authority over heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). His kingdom will never be destroyed.
Application:
Are you anxious about the world today? About the uncertainty in politics, wars, or the pressures of life? Daniel’s vision reminds us: God is in control, not chaos.
•Let this truth anchor your faith: God’s throne is not empty.
•When you feel overwhelmed by the noise of the world, remember the quiet confidence of heaven—where God reigns and Jesus is exalted.
•Live today as a citizen of an unshakable kingdom, trusting in the King who never loses His grip on history or your life.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that in a world full of change, You remain the Ancient of Days—unchanging, unshaken, and sovereign. Help me to trust in Your authority and rest in Your rule. May I live not in fear of what the world is doing, but in faith in what You have already declared. Jesus, reign in my heart today. Amen.
